Medical Transportation

We provide Medical Transportation daily between the hours of 8:30am until 3:30 pm. Please call our office if you are needing to get to your medical appointments, or to pick up prescriptions. Our Medical Transportation is donation based. No one will be turned down for inability to pay. We are here to help!

Meals on Wheels

The Topeka LULAC Senior Center is a  Meals On Wheels Congregate and Distribution Site. This means that those who qualify may eat lunch provided by Meals on Wheels of Shawnee and Jefferson Counties at our location and that we serve as a hub for volunteers who deliver meals in our neighborhood. Please note you must contact Meals on Wheels 24 hours in advance of having a meal at the congregate site.

We take an interest in your needs. We regularly host health events, host nursing students, and have our own MOVE! Exercise Group which has been going strong for 14 months, with a certified Physical Therapist as our leader.  The Center also works hard to maintain outreach to other community organizations and agencies that can be of assistance to our participants.

August Activity Calendar

Tai Chi Class

We are very fortunate to have a Registered Nurse lead our weekly Tai Chi class. Anyone is welcome to attend. Class begins at 11am and goes until 11:45 each Wednesday.

Monthly Health Checks

Recreation

We host a range of activities including engaging presentations & workshops by community partners, speakers, musicians, & more alongside gardening, games, art projects & anything else our participants are interested in. We are a very busy Senior Center and the only full-time one in Topeka!

Several times a month we host nursing students from Baker University who check our participants' vital statistics such as pulse rate, weight changes, and blood pressure. This helps students learn valuable skills and helps our participants stay informed about their health, at no cost.

Adventure Awaits

These are supposed to be your golden years, so let us help you enjoy them! We go on regular outings to museums, historical sites, the movies, fishing ponds, art shows, & anywhere else that catches our eye & we add more every month!

Commodity Foods

We are proud to partner with Harvesters to help supplement the diets of seniors who qualify for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program by serving as a pick-up site for commodity foods. Commodities are delivered to our location monthly and seniors enrolled in this program will receive a call when they are ready for pick-up.

Computer technology is one of the greatest tools of today's world & step by step, our participants are learning to use this tool to help them live life to the fullest, seek answers to big questions, & control their health. We are also proud to partner with the Washburn Institute of Technology to provide computer education classes to our neighborhood, free of charge!

Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds

We strive to support the comprehensive health of members of our community. Visiting nurses, senior nutritional/gardening classes, our Cooks in the Kitchen Program, our Move! Exercises Group, Healthy Foods from Natural Grocers, Senior Computer Classes  & more combine to create a coordinated system of support for both the health and happiness of our participants and their families.
